AMBC Race Gives Qualifications for Pro and CAT1 Classes to the USA Cycling Cross-Country Mountain Bike National Championships! In 2015, the USA Cycling XC MTB National Championships race will be held from July 17 – 20 at Mammoth Mountain, CA, making the Greenbrier Challenge one of the few events in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic region where riders can qualify for invitations to Nationals and still be part of USA Cycling’s 2015 AMBC National Calendar. Come out and practice on the Mid-Atlantic Regional courses to get ready for Nationals!
Both CAT3 (Beginner) and CAT2 (Sport) riders do not need to qualify in order to attend the National Championships, but can only race at Nationals if they have an Annual License.
Since the Greenbrier Challenge is both an AMBC race and a State Championship race, the top 15 riders in each 5 year age bracket of each class at the Greenbrier race will automatically qualify, and will receive a USA Cycling invitation in the mail/email. There are very few chances to qualify on the east coast, come to Greenbrier and you’ll have a good chance in all classes!
AMBC Race also serves as the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships (MARC). Greenbrier is a single-race Regional Championship. Regional medals and titles are offered to the top three (3) racers in each starting class that have an USA Cycling Annual License.
Maryland State Championships
This AMBC Race also serves as the Maryland State Championships! Again in 2015, the top three (3) USA Cycling Mountain Bike Annual Licensed riders in each class will be awarded Maryland State Championship Titles/Medals. State medals and titles will be awarded to Annually Licensed MD State Residents Only.
Mid-Atlantic Super Series (MASS) Points
There are many more racing classes in this event than there are in the MASS Series Points Standings. That is so that racers get the best opportunities to place in the top 15 spots in their class and gain invitations to the MTB National Championships and to gain State and Regional titles. Racers will also receive MASS Series points in the applicable MASS classes through a merging of results based on total completion times. For example, the CAT2 Female 19-29 and CAT2 Female 30-39 classes will be merged for MASS Series Points purposes to get a single MASS CAT2 Women Under 40 set of points. And so forth for other combinations of classes.
